Global Security and Defense Developments - 25 February 2026

Executive Summary

Heightened U.S.–Iran tensions continue to shape the security environment as Washington significantly expands its air and support force posture across Europe and the Middle East, including advanced fighter deployments and preparations for potential follow-on movements toward the region. While U.S. leadership publicly emphasizes diplomacy ahead of the upcoming Geneva talks, parallel military planning underscores readiness for rapid escalation should negotiations fail. Iran, meanwhile, is reinforcing its defensive posture through exercises near the Strait of Hormuz, adding pressure to an already volatile maritime and energy corridor. Beyond the Middle East, diplomatic activity persists on other fronts, including preparations for renewed trilateral talks on Ukraine, while global defense developments reflect sustained investment in advanced munitions, platforms, and industrial capacity among major powers and allies.

This daily brief examines heightened military posturing and strategic deployments amid ongoing diplomatic engagement, as major powers balance deterrence, signaling, and negotiation. It assesses force movements, operational readiness, and alliance dynamics alongside parallel diplomatic tracks, highlighting indicators that shape escalation risk and crisis management across multiple theaters. The brief is designed to support timely situational awareness by contextualizing tactical developments within broader geopolitical and security trends.

U.S. POSSIBLE ATTACK ON IRAN - MIDDLE EAST DEPLOYMENT

  • Six F-22A fighter jets and an unspecified number of F-15E strike aircraft from the U.S. mainland have been deployed to RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom. The aircraft may be redeployed to the Middle East in the coming days. An additional six F-22As are expected to be sent from the U.S. mainland to RAF Lakenheath during the ongoing period.

  • Eleven F-22A fighter jets based at RAF Lakenheath were deployed to Israel’s Ovda Air Base, while one aircraft returned to RAF Lakenheath due to a technical malfunction.

GLOBAL SECURITY DEVELOPMENTS

  • An aircraft carrying Iran’s negotiating delegation has departed Tehran and is en route to Geneva for a third round of indirect nuclear talks with the United States, scheduled for Thursday. The upcoming session follows two earlier rounds this month and comes amid heightened regional tensions and increased U.S. military presence in the Middle East.

  • Since the second round of Iran–U.S. nuclear talks on 18 February, the United States has redeployed more than 150 combat aircraft to bases in Europe and the Middle East, including advanced combat assets and supporting platforms.

  • U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated that diplomacy remains the preferred path with Iran, while emphasizing that military options are ready; during briefings to members of Congress, strong warnings were issued regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities and ballistic missile development activities.

  • Reports indicate that Iranian military forces and affiliated elements have conducted exercises near the Strait of Hormuz and increased their defensive readiness.

  • It was announced that a new round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States may take place in early March.

  • The third round of U.S.–Iran talks will be held in Geneva on 26 February. It is assessed that a negative outcome could trigger the start of a U.S. strike against Iran.

  • According to an Israeli intelligence official, U.S. intelligence assesses that even with the arrival of USS Gerald R. Ford, the U.S. military could sustain intensive air operations for only four to five days, and lower-intensity operations for approximately one week.
