AFRICA BULLETIN — ISSUE 03
Executive Summary
Africa’s strategic landscape this week was shaped by growing security instability and intensifying competition over critical resources. Niger’s failed mutiny highlighted the expanding security roles of Russia and Algeria in the Sahel, while persistent attacks and kidnappings showed that Nigeria continues to face serious internal threats. Sudan and eastern DRC remained major conflict hotspots, with continued fighting raising the risk of prolonged fragmentation. At the same time, competition for Africa’s critical minerals accelerated as India, China and the US expanded their engagement in Zambia, Guinea and other resource-rich markets. For Turkey, Somalia remains a key security arena, but Ankara faces growing competition from global powers that are combining security, investment and resource access across Africa.
